This is what it's all about.

After several years of research and creation around the theme of nostalgia, I have the great pleasure of announcing that in September will take place, in Lausanne, the exhibition bringing together the works that are part of this series. On this occasion, I would also like to present a publication, a sort of catalogue/artist’s book, so that anyone who wishes can keep a souvenir of the exhibition, but also images of most of the pieces presented.

My project is special because ...

The idea of the project is to show different facets of this feeling which has often been perceived as negative, because it is frequently confused with melancholy. However, recent scientific studies show that, on the contrary, the activation of nostalgic memories makes it possible to fight against sadness and to protect oneself from negative feelings.

Everyday objects, images or songs can give rise to phrases such as «the good old days» or «la belle époque». Nostalgia evokes a vision of the past that is often not very objective, images that affirm that the past was always better or more pleasant than the present, and ignores the negative elements.

Likewise, it is important to denounce the commercial use that is given to nostalgia, because it predisposes us to pay more for an object that we are looking for. What will remind us of a cherished past will be more successful. Nostalgia is also used in politics. Some examples bear witness to this, such as the campaign slogan «Make America Great Again» used by several American presidents, notably Donald Trump, but also before him by Ronald Reagan and for certain speeches by Bill Clinton.
