Preserving historical sheet music

The sheet music and life work of Austrian composer Friedrich Frischenschlager is currently handwritten Urtexts. If something were to happen to the box they are stored in, they would be lost forever.

  • Step 1. In order to preserve them for future generations, the urtexts need to be scanned and digitalized.
  • Step 2. If the finances allow the urtexts need to be digitally typeset. Only when the handwriting is upgraded to a standard computer typed notation, will musicians be able to perform the wonderful music of Friedrich Frischenschlager.

My project is special because ...

it preserves part of Austria’s rich musical history while creating beautiful editions of otherwise lost music. Austrian composer Friedrich Frischenschlager was a student of famed opera composer Engelbert Humperdinck. Later he became a professor at the Mozarteum in Salzburg. Frischenschlager famously taught the young Herbert von Karajan and had a great passion for children’s choir.

This is what I need backing for.

The money raised from this We Make it Campaign will pay for: Travel costs, Scanning Costs and the greatest expense typesetting.

Typesetting costs circa €20 Euros per page. There are thousands of pages, so this project will focus on scanning everything and beginning the type setting in order of priority.

With the goal of the largest most complex composition being completed in September 2023 as a result of this campaign.
