Good news, we have all of the Winyl pairing rewards now in stock. I am only waiting on the t-shirts to complete the packages, and then all who supported can visit to pick up their package!

Hello again all,

here we are near the end of our second month with Roxy open for all, which still seems amazing to me. Some of you have already stopped in for a visit, and I hope you are enjoying this place you helped get up and running :)

Another update on campaign rewards: my previous emails asking for t-shirt sizes have not had many responses, so I went ahead a printed a small selection of each size, and will have them ready for any supporters that come by for a visit, including those that selected the Winyl reward packs with t-shirts. The Winyl rewards should be ready for pickup by next week, I’ll confirm again via emails to the individual supporters.

I’ll follow up with more emails soon for drink vouchers and other details. Thanks again to every one of you, hope to see you soon at Roxy!

It looks like we should be ready to move into preparing the pledge rewards period. To make sure I have all he correct contact information, please check your personal info on the wemakeit platform, including names, email, and mailing address if you have a reward that requires shipping.

On my side I am finalizing a few details for the t-shirts, and will be preparing vouchers and cards for all those that will be receiving drinks and coffees.

On the Roxy side of things, we are in the 4th week(!) of being open, amazing how quickly this time has gone by. If you haven’t already, feel free to come by for a visit… and let me know if you are part of the campaign, there are a lot of you, and I want to be able to thank everyone when I get a chance :) We are planning a few events in the coming weeks, definitely something to look forward to.

Here we are, a little more than a week since the campaign successfully completed. What next?

The Wemakeit platform, will wait for a week to ensure all pledges have been collected, and then they will arrange access to the pledged funds within 14 days. We are about 9 days in, so I expect to have the final total and final list of campaign backers and contact infos by next week. I am starting to prepare the reward products and production (mostly the t-shirts, stickers are ready, and need to prepare a couple of special cards for drink and coffee rewards) as well as the special Winyl pairings, which are already waiting for me to pick up. I’ll give more info on rewards progress in the next couple of weeks.

We also are wrapping up our third week since opening on 4 May (what?!) and learning about what is working, what needs to be better, and what needs to be added. Lots of great suggestions and learning so far, thanks for everyone being patient as we (mostly I) learn the ropes about how to run a cafe and bar like this. So far the enthusiastic and warm reception from the guests show that we are at least doing something right, and can only get better from here.

So, while waiting patiently for your rewards and additional updates, please come by and try out this lovely new coffee, drinks, and vinyl music cafe you all helped support in the heart of Winterthur. Thanks again!

The Roxy Vinyl Cafe crowdfunder campaign closed at 15’770.- a great run near the end with a couple big backers helping close the gap. It’s been a long ride and pretty exhausting along the way, but looks like it was worth it! Many thanks, once again, to all of you. I should receive your contact info from wemakeit soon, and will plan to communicate about rewards and next steps in the coming weeks. And remember, we are already open:

Crazy, we made it Roxy fans… the crowdfunder goal was met sometime last night, and we are secured for completing in the next 10 or so hours! 🤩🎉🍾

Anything we make over that pledge goal will further help with our opening costs, and planning for future sound system improvements (already have some ideas for this).

Here we go, first week finished – we somehow, amazingly, despite all odds, opened to the public, and had an amazing mix of curious onlookers, @roxyvinylcafe fans and backers, party people of all sorts, and lots of serious vinyl fans… the «collectors» that have forgotten more about vinyls and record collecting over the years than I’ll ever know

We are also in the last week of our crowdfunder… 3 days to go in this ambitious all-or-nothing campaign to help build support, awareness, fans and a community to help with the costs and contribute to the future of our already splendid hi-fi vinyl sound system. We are in the final stretch, a little over a third of the way to our 15k goal, which will be a challenge, but is still possible. The crowdfund campaign is getting to its last days too, hope to make another push here to try and make that all-or-nothing goal! Lots of great rewards remaining, pick up some music, wine, vinyls, t-shirts and stickers, or plan an event for you and your friends, with or without drinks included!

As of this week we have the soundsystem area mostly done, just need to add in the remaining vinyls from the house collection (an eclectic mix of classic jazz and hard/bebop, French chanson, 70s funk & soul, roots reggae, moody instrumental soundtrack and electronic, post-punk and new wave, and more!)

We will also bring vinyls for sale in the back cafe corner, in cooperation with our friends at Hi-Fi Records, their shop is just a few steps away on the other end of Neustadtgasse.

There is a bigger selection of green plants to help lighten up the interior more, and we are trying different combinations of the interior, lounge sofa, chairs, rugs, and side tables.

All of the ceiling lighting is removed for now, while new fixtures are installed, so we are making as much use of the sunlight hours as possible!

A very busy weekend, getting everything ready for you. We’ll be open for business, ready or not, on Wednesday, 04.05. Opening days and hours are now posted on socials and our website, roxycafe.ch – see you soon!

Spent the whole day in Roxy Cafe today, mixing between day job, cafe appointments, salesman negotiations, team scheduling, audio system tuning, electric and lighting project coordination, service and repair calls, so on and so forth. Pretty exhausted tbh, but the whole thing is coming together in leaps and starts. Feels a bit Don Q tilting-at-windmills from time to time, but I got to finish the day listening to a fantastic Charles Mingus Sextet Live in Amsterdam 1964 LP on the slightly tightened up soundsystem, while wrapping up the tail ends of the day. Thanks to all supporting me, and thanks for everyone who is patient with the seemingly slow progress of this ambitious one-man project

One of the challenges you face opening a new business is little surprises along the way. We knew that the original pressed and varnished metal facade for the bar was still under the black painted MDF board when we took over this location, and planned to return it to its original glamour. Lo and behold, what did we find underneath ? The MDF board across the entire front had been GLUED WITH SILICON EPOXY TO THE SURFACE

The big cleaning. Work in progress: combination of scraping, piling, scrubbing, heating, chemicals, more scraping, more scrubbing, so on and so forth 🥵 Not exactly how I wanted to spend my Easter weekend, but the difference so far is worth it.

Sorry for the lack of updates this past few days, but all for good reason, we have just been extremely busy with the preparations for opening! Here are a few interesting notes from the last few days:

We are planning to open in the first week of May, either Wednesday 4th or Thursday 5th! We hope to finish the interior and first inventory by Tuesday of that week.

• Our audio system will be installed starting tomorrow, should be finished by Sunday
• Vinyl storage racks (for the house collection and the sales collection) are being installed this week, should be finished by Friday.
• We are ordering our first drinks inventory for the end of next week, hope to share the menu soon!
• I met with the electrician today, he will begin the new lighting installation Thursday next week, and should be done with most of it by end of that week.
• We are refreshing the beer taps system, but it likely will not be ready for opening in first week of May. We will have bottled beers available from the beginning though.
• Finalizing the wine list now, should be a lovely selection for you all!
• Meeting and interviewing for 2 additional staff positions, one for a barista, and the second for a bartender. Info posted on https://www.roxycafe.ch/jobs feel free to share around! 
- The steamer on our espresso machine has stopped working :( so I’ll need to get our service technician to take a look, then we can start practicing our coffee preparations.
• Roxy Stickers arrived! More of the merchandise should be ready soon, will share as we get it :)

Hello Roxy friends. For a bit of storage in one area of the cafe, we are searching for some old Haldengut Bierkiste/Holzharass. The dimensions should be 54x46x36cm. They should have Haldengut stamped on the side to make sure they fit with others we have. Any leads greatly appreciated!

This week we started building custom vinyl storage for two areas, one for the house collection that we’ll play on our sound system for guests during days, evenings, and special events – the other for our vinyls for sale, so you can take that groovy new disc home with you. Dig. 🎶

Locking in that coffee grind, happy to be working with www.reinhart-caffee.ch as our coffee roaster. ❤️ ☕️

I’m drawn to the vibrant gravity of musical spaces – where the connection between music and listener becomes a living, vibrant experience. That connection may be brief, but lingers on: after the needle is lifted from the record, or a final encore has been played; when the door closes on the music drifting out from a visit to a corner record shop, or once the resonant notes from a street musician’s instrument are no longer in earshot, but are still felt in your mind, body, and soul.

A subsequent visit to New York during the summer of 2021, with a stay in a hotel with its own live jazz bar and music club within, convinced me the time to act on a lifelong dream to run a music and arts cafe had come.
