6 dice to unleash your inner storyteller

We want to share our passion for storytelling with you and give you the tools to come up with fun science-themed stories. We’re designing 26 (you have the chance to influence the remaining 10!) unique icons representing the different STEM fields. Each throw of the dice creates a unique combination of icons for which you will come up with a story. Maybe you want to control the world as the evil scientist developing a nuclear bomb in a hideout in the Antarctic, or maybe you’re instead a leading health scientist on the ISS developing the cure for cancer? Tell the story you’ve always wanted to tell but you didn’t think of yet.

We’re notoriously bad storytellers

As scientists we’re not known for the captivating stories we tell. We enjoy our work in the lab but once it comes to telling family and friends about the importance of our work we can usually see them drift away in real-time. If you’re a researcher or just passionate about science, let’s practice the ways we can tell stories about some of our greatest scientific achievements with a set of adorable, hand-drawn dice.

We need your help

We (that’s Julius, Dani and Pauline) are/were PhD students at EPFL and met at a summer school. During a science storytelling workshop, we realized that there are simply no science-themed story dice out there! Well, they say innovation comes out of a personal need :)

To make this a product at a reasonable price, we need to manufacture it in bulk. Your contribution will be used for:

  • printing and distribution of the SciCubes

If more money than the minimum required sum is raised:

  • dice will come in a nice cardboard packaging
  • we will send free sets of dice to interested schools
  • we will develop a website for a small online shop

We hope you are as excited as we are about our SciCubes project and that you find it worth supporting! THANK YOU!
