This is what it's all about.
The graduation project during the last school year is an essential part of the final exams in my school program at the Kantonsschule im Lee. I consider myself lucky to be able to combine my passion for film production with this school project. With a short film, I want to approach a theme that hasn’t been treated intensively in society so far. In a fictitious story, the main character will experience and deal with the image of «man» in today’s society in Switzerland. The topic shall not be addressed directly, but rather give the viewers the chance of forming their own opinion. The short film shall have a duration of 5 to 15 minutes.
Why this topic?
Nowadays, it has become more and more common for women to stand up for their rights and fight against generalized stigmatization through society. But not only women are confronted with prejudice and expectations. What does it mean to «be a man» in these modern times?
The main character of the film shall be a figure that many men can identify with. I deliberately chose a theme that generally has not yet been overly represented, so that I can also integrate my own opinion as a young adult towards this subject.
What are the production costs made up of?
Film production is an expensive matter. It starts during planning, when cost incur like the subscription fee for special software, that helps from writing the script to planning the shoot. Out of fairness and on a small scale, I would like to re-compensate the crew for their work. Last but not least, we will need catering on the set and have to rent some necessary material. To ensure the quality of the imagery before post-production, fitting props, low-key decoration in the background, good lighting and quality (rented) camera equipment will be of great importance.
