Can Scenography Dance Through the Body?

The Bubble is a poetic, material-driven dance performance blending classical and contemporary styles, inspired by my theoretical research on the Swiss dance landscape. After conducting many interviews with dance practitioners for my master’s thesis at FHNW, I decided to bring the dramaturgy I discovered to life on stage.

As a former dancer and now scenographer, I’m combining my experience in choreography, design, and curation to lead this artistic journey. I’ve assembled five brilliant young dancers and will direct the process from concept to stage. Our creative process begins on June 23, and we’ll share the result in two performances on July 4 and 5 at Tanzhaus Basel.

While this project began as part of my academic work, it has grown into something larger—an opportunity to offer a professional platform for young dancers and to explore new ways of thinking through dance. To make it possible, I’ll need the support of others—from backstage experts to artistic collaborators.

Your support will help shape the project’s full potential. Let’s bring The Bubble to life together.

Combining theoretical research and artistic practice.

Bringing Dance to Life: Support a Bold New Performance I’ve spent over 20 years as a professional dancer before transitioning into scenography. Now, living in Switzerland and pursuing my master’s degree, I’m reconnecting with the dance-theater world that shaped me.

What This Project Is About I’m creating a visually striking dance performance that explores the invisible barriers young dancers face today. Floating scenographic elements will symbolize the unseen structures that shape their realities, offering a dynamic, immersive experience for both dancers and audience.

Why Your Support Matters Your help will directly fund the training and growth of young dancers. To inspire them and strengthen their foundation, I am bringing in a prima ballerina from Rio de Janeiro, who will dance with us and share her artistry — offering the young dancers invaluable experience for their future auditions and professional opportunities.

We are also including male dancers to mirror real company dynamics. Since some participants are not based in Basel, part of the funds will cover their accommodation during rehearsals.

Breaking Barriers Together Many talented dancers miss career opportunities simply because they don’t have access to classical training. With your support, we can break these invisible barriers and open new paths for young artists.

Join Us - Help us bring this powerful performance to life and create real change in the dance world. Your support will inspire the next generation of performers — and bring a beautiful, socially conscious show to the stage.

Thank you for believing in this vision!

What Your Support Will Fund.

To successfully realise this project, I need financial support to cover minimal fair fees for the dancers, accommodation and transport costs, and the engagement of a musician, lighting designer, and seamstress. Additionally, I will need to purchase materials for costumes and scenography, cover transportation, and address production and unexpected costs.

As the project will be hosted in a professional theater, if I engage the theater’s professionals, I may also need to pay for the services of the theater’s technical staff — including cloakroom services, entrance management, stage technicians, and other essential logistical support.

Including male dancers is also part of the plan, which requires additional support for their participation and stay during the project period.

Your backing will allow me to build a fully professional environment for the dancers and bring The Bubble to life in the best possible conditions. Providing small catering during rehearsal time and the premiere would also be beneficial.

We will be very grateful for any contribution you might provide. If the funding goal is achieved, I can minimally cover the aforementioned costs. I will be doubly happy if you come to watch the result of the project you are helping to realize. If the goal is exceeded, I will have better chances to enhance the production further.

I would be delighted to answer any questions, receive feedback, or hear suggestions and future professional invitations. Feel free to reach me at salazarene@hotmail.com
