A music project with contemporary Greek music

We (UMS ʼn JIP) are a Swiss contemporary music duo being worldwide, alongside Ensemble Modern, Intercontemporain and Kronos, one of the most active contemporary music ensembles of our time.

«The Greece Project» commissions 8 new works by living Greek composers of different generations and aesthetics – Antonis Rouvelas, Zesses Seglias, Leontios Hadjileontiadis, Panagiotis Kokoras, Dimitris Maronidis, Haris Kittos, Michalis Lapidakis, Dimitris Papageorgiou – offering by this a unique panorama of the newest contemporary music tendencies in actual Greece.

Since October 2012 we work in close collaboration with the concerned composers. The works will be premiered on 2/23/2013 in Thessaloniki State Orchestra Concert Hall, in cooperation with Aristotle University Contemporary Music Dpt., the Aristotle University Dpt. of Electronic Music as well as the Aristotle University Dept. of Electrical & Computer Eng.

More than 20 additional concerts are scheduled in Basel, Bern, Brig, Zürich, Swiss Contemporary Music Festival Forum/Wallis (March-May 2013), as well as during the annual tours of UMS ʼn JIP in 2013/14.

Your Support

Your support will be exclusively used to pay the fees of the Greek composers.

Contemporary music commissions are usually financed by institutions of the composerʼs native country. Due to the actual economic situation in Greece the working conditions for Greek composers and musicians are becoming dramatically more and more difficult every month. Actually in Greece there are no resources to be raised for commissioning contemporary music. 5000 Franks represent the minimum that is missing to pay honorable royalties to the composers. If the sum collected here should be more important it will be in the full composerʼs benefit.

By supporting our project you give a voice and future to Greek composers: Contemporary Greek music will be performed, widely heard and spread by highly renommated musicians and will be linked on an international level.

«The Greece Project» is supported by Swiss Arts Council Pro Helvetia.
