Voting Day, a novel

di Clare O'Dea

Friburgo

On February 1, 1959, Swiss men voted no to women's suffrage. My novel tells the story of that day from the point of view of four Swiss women - Vreni, Margrit, Esther and Beatrice.

  • The sickeningly long road to women’s suffrage is such an important part of Swiss history, and one that should definitely not be brushed under the carpet or forgotten about...I’m very excited to read a fictionalised account of what this devastating ’No’ must have meant for both men and women in Switzerland. Thank you :-)

  • I read Clare's nonfiction book The Naked Irish: outstanding. I have every confidence that it will be exciting to read her novel. May the project funding be a big success!

  • I’m so happy that there are women out there like Claire O’Dea who brings light to such an important topic. We women are «still fighting» at several levels to be able to speak up and be heard. I'm so looking forward to read this book, and I believe every woman (and men) should too. T
