F. Schubert - CD «The Path of Life»

With an homage to Franz Schubert, tenor Ilker Arcayürek and pianist Simon Lepper want to follow up on the great success of their first joint CD recording «Der Einsame» and take you on a journey entitled «The Path of Life» / «The Path of the Life «take away!

The young Austrian with Turkish roots started his career in 2010 in the opera studio of the Zurich Opera House. His «golden timbre» attested to by the specialist media led the tenor to Teatro Real in Madrid, KKL Luzern, the Bavarian State Opera, the Edinburgh Festival, the Salzburg Festival, Wigmore Hall London, Schubertiade Schwarzenberg among many other venues and also to the USA.

Ilker is a former BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artist and is known for his passion for «lieder singing» and is considered as one of the leading singers of his generation. Together with his pianist Simon Lepper, they form a multicultural duo that is passionate about «Lied».

The debut album «Der Einsame» was selected several times in the category «Album of the Year» and was praised by the media:

«Zeit Online - Album of the Year:» The young Viennese sings with so much heart that your own starts beating loudly. «

★★★★★ The Guardian «Young Tenor Ilker Arcayürek is in a class on his own» ★★★★★ The Times - «Schubert, who saw his songs performed casually in living rooms among friends, would love this wonderfully intimate recording.»

Simon and Ilker met at the Verbier Festival in 2012 and continued their partnership 2015 at BBC Cardiff Singer of the World and have been making music as a well-rehearsed Lied-Duo ever since.

This Project is special because...

The Swiss love for detail, English finesse combined with Viennese charm and a touch of oriental melancholy makes this CD to what it is - a mixture of emotions, cultures and epochs.

A coincidence brought me to the Moroccan photography artist Achraf Baznani. His pictures inspired me and ultimately brought the program «The path of life» to life.

In this CD I want to break the tradition of placing song after song and create another «Best of Schubert Collection». I tried to find the connection in poetry and harmonies, with the intention of creating a program that sounds like a «continuous song».

Finding the right choice of songs for this «life cycle» became a very emotional task that kept me busy day and night for a long time. In our concept, the CD therefore contains five chapters that we see as stages in life: love, longing, quest for inner peace, resignation, salvation.

In addition to the well-known titles such as «Du bist die Ruh», «An Sylvia» it also includes songs that are rarely heard, such as «Der Unglückliche»and «Du liebst mich nicht».

We are very happy to have found a partner with the new Swiss label «Prospero Classical», which believes in our concept and supports us together with Swiss Radio SRF2.

The art by Achraf Baznani accompanies the Schubert album and rounds up the overall package between acoustic and optical experience. Our CD is therefore designed in a limited edition as a high-quality «hardcover book» - a kind of mini-book with a booklet printed on art paper. Each CD has its own number.
