An inequality crisis
Imagine for a moment a life where the simple and daily act of pouring a glass of fresh water from the tap becomes impossible. The water that comes out is unsafe, often contaminated, and could cause various health problems - even death.
Imagine that a quarter of the world’s population, 2 billion people, is currently in this situation. In a world where technology seems so advanced, 300,000 children do not reach their fifth birthday every year because of water-related diseases. The first victims of this water crisis are often the poorest and most vulnerable populations.
Millions of children miss school due to illness. Millions of parents miss much-needed work days to support their families. Millions of women cannot access the labor market because they spend most of their time boiling water for the household and caring for their sick family members. These already marginalized populations do not have the opportunities to escape poverty, and the rural-urban and gender inequality gap continues to widen.
We create jobs that bring safe water
Join us in enabling all populations in urgent need to gain access to an innovative water filter. Our filter is highly efficient and removes 99.99999% of bacteria in water, heavy metals, and pesticides. We developed a filtration membrane that is environmentally friendly, biodegradable, and solvent-free. Our filter works with gravity - no energy is needed! Tons of CO2 do not get released into the atmosphere because people stop boiling water. We fight climate change. And the climate crisis is a water crisis.
But the best part is that our filter can be produced locally, by local people! We provide all the tools to entrepreneurs in Latin America and later in Africa to assemble the filters and sell them in the most remote areas.
We create jobs, encourage entrepreneurship (especially among women), and contribute to a better world. With your support, Openversum’s ultimate goal is to shape a world where people do not die because of contaminated water and where rural communities finally have access to the tools they need to improve their own lives.
Today you can contribute to this vision by helping to support Openversum, which has already changed the lives of more than 400 people in Ecuador - without us ever having to go there.
Climate-centered engineers with heart
Our team of engineers - Lorenzo, Laura, and Olivier - combines two realities: growing up with uncertain access to water in Colombia and never having to worry about water quality in Switzerland, where state-of-the-art technology ensures clean water at all times. So our mission became: to make sure that technologies like the ones we have access to here are available every day to everyone. Our team spent four years designing a water filter that can be locally assembled.
We are developing all the necessary tools to support our entrepreneurs in their water business. The team needs your financial support to launch a final pilot in 2023, training more than 50 entrepreneurs between Ecuador and Colombia, and improving the lives of more than 15,000 people with clean water. Your contribution will go towards raw filter materials, training, and field interventions.
Our filter technology is ready and patented, our venture has been approved in the field and by experts around the world, and our team is ready to grow. Openversum already has partners who will guarantee our implementation on all continents. With you, everything becomes possible.
