Hi, I’m Pia Henzelmann, the founder of Japan Food Fest. My love for Japanese food started at a young age and over the years I’ve been discovering Japan’s flavors and it’s umami flavor. I wanted to create an event that shares these authentic experiences with people in Switzerland, because Japanese cuisine is so much more than sushi and ramen.
Japan Food Fest began in 2022 as a passion project where I combined my love for food with my experience in organizing events. While it’s a food-focused event, promoting Japanese culture has always been equally important. From the first year, I personally funded the cultural programs and experiences, as sponsorship support was always difficult to secure. For our 5th year edition, I want to make the Japan Food Fest offer more to our guests: a curated full-day program, hands-on workshops, and activities that let guests explore Japan’s traditions and culture. With your support, we can bring this vision to life and create unforgettable experiences for everyone who attends.
Bringing Japan's flavor to Switzerland
Japan Food Fest is currently the only Japanese food event in Switzerland, and over the past five years it has grown from a small event in Zug to a large event in Zürich. It celebrates and connects the Swiss-Japanese community and guests from across Switzerland. As a non-Japanese organizer, I have worked hard to build relationships and provide a platform where Japanese-owned and Japan-focused businesses can share their craft of cooking Japanese food.
I personally oversee every aspect of the event to ensure it respects Japanese traditions and educates guests about the authentic experience of Japan. Accessibility and inclusivity are also central to the event. For example, vegan and vegetarian options have been encouraged since past editions, and this year we are organizing a family area and priority access for guests with special accommodations.
Japan Food Fest is a passion project built on community, discovery, and memorable experiences that bring people closer to Japan.
