The album

Gilberto Gil is going to record an album in Gland (VD) this July, in the same studio where Phil Collins produced his latest CD. Gilberto Gil will be joined by some great musicians, e.g. Gustavo di Dalva (percussion), Jaques Morelenbaum (cello) as well as South Africa’s Vusi Mahlasela, a.k.a. «The Voice» and Paul Hanmer (piano), to name a few. On some pieces he will also be joined by the Sinfonietta de Lausanne.

Gilberto Gil

Gilberto Gil, master of Brazilian music (12 gold records, 5 platin records, 5 grammys) and former Minister of Culture is presenting on his new album an exciting fusion of his latin musical roots and South African influences. Some of the songs are enhanced with arrangements for strings and winds.

This year, it’s Gilberto Gil’s 70th birthday!

«Viramundo» – the movie

Our music project is based on the documentary «Viramundo», produced by Dreampixies and directed by Swiss Pierre-Yves Borgeaud.
This roadmovie around the Southern hemisphere shows encounters from Gilberto Gil with artists and public figures, who belong to ethnic minorities in Australia, South Africa and in the heart of the Amazon. Through music, they deal with the question of how to live together and save their local cultures in a more and more globalized and standardized world.
