The Story.

There is this moment; between the mango groves and corn fields. I remember playing and running barefoot with my younger sister as my mother was cooking chicken outdoors for dinner. I remember the scents, her smile and laughter. I remember how she felt when she held me in her arms. I remember her. Her name was Rose.

Life had barely started when I lost my mother in the chaos of Togo and found myself in an orphanage with my little sister. I had no idea at the time that everything that I knew would soon change.

At seven years old, my sister and I boarded an airplane for the first time, watching the orange and red colors turn into snow peak mountains. A new life full of opportunities with a new family. It was the year 1993

Fast-forward to 2016; life took me across the oceans again, this time to Bali, Indonesia, where I met someone who would change the course of my life. This man’s name is Urchey, and he would prove to be the beginning of my story back home.

In 2019, I receive a call from Urchey who says, «Sit down, I have great news to tell you». I found your biological older sister.» This was a great discovery, up until that moment I thought that I was my mother’s eldest. It was also the day that I found out my birth name.

The seed had been planted, and thus began my adventure to finding all the puzzle pieces to connect my past and future. Which leads me to 2022 where I decide to leave my job after 10 years and devote myself 100% to my art; film-making. It is my passion to share other people’s stories and their experiences through the lens.

This year, I want to share my story

The Funds

My story is only words, but with the help of my community these words may come to live in color. I have sat down and vigorously budgeted the documentary, cutting out anything unnecessary and focused on the quality and message that I wanted to share.

To make this documentary, the cost is 20,000 CHF. This covers the cost of bringing the whole family together from Togo, Benin and Nigeria for the shooting. It will cover the cost of filming for two weeks, transportation, accommodation, food and permits. But most importantly, cover the necessary costs of the audio mastering, music composition and color grading that elevates the film to a professional category.

I have set up this crowdfunding to receive help to cross the finish line, but I do not come empty-handed. With the support of family and friends, we have set up a range of offerings to those who participate in this crowdfunding. We have Afro beat dance classes, fusion yoga, plant based food, family portraits and even a workshop with me after my travels.

My minimum budget is 20,000 but while I am reaching for the stars- I have listed in the slide show below what I would do should this crowdfunding exceed the minimum.
