How it all started
When our daughter learned to play Jass, I truly realized that there are no real queens in the game. The kings trump the queens and score even more in the process. So, I decided to draw a new, contemporary card set especially for my wonderful and strong daughter. The new cards should hardly differ from conventional ones. Just now, all genders can rule, trump or outdo. Each character retains its rank and role in the game, but some characters look new with different genders. The cards are designed in such a way that the traditional figures and their insignia remain recognizable — traditional playing practice is maintained.
How it went
What started out as a small, personal project turned into (a full-fledged AE) an entire design challenge. In addition to the stereotypical kings and queens, ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls in their traditional guises, there is suddenly a variety of ages, gender expressions and gender roles to be discovered. At some point, drawing was so much fun that I also wanted to beautify the symbols and redesign the number cards. In the end I had created what I think a very convincing new version of the traditional Swiss game Jass. I need your help so that not only my daughter can play this game, but also to bring the joy of playing with the redesigned cards to many other people.
This is what I need backing for
I would like many people to be able to play with the «Jass* for all» cards. But I don’t have the financial means for printing and distribution on a larger scale.
With your contribution you make the following possible:
- Printing: Offset on playing card stock, varnished and cellophane wrapped.
- Homepage: www.jasskarten.net
If more money than the minimum required sum is raised:
- the cards are printed on higher-quality cardboard
- the number of decks available increases
- the cards come in a lovely cardboard packaging
- and, as a little guerrilla act, Jass* cards are smuggled into card decks in restaurants ;-)
I hope I was able to get you excited about Jass* and you think it’s a good thing and I hope that thanks to your support it can be printed and played. THANK YOU!
