Powercoders is a programming academy for refugees, which already took place in Bern and Zurich. We have a partial funding (from the SEM) for Lausanne, but we need your support to have a class of 20.

Our idea

We, that’s Hussam Allaham, Coline Sauzet, Hélène Portier and Olivier Ahn are bringing Powercoders to Lausanne.

Powercoders is a coding academy for refugees initiated by Christian Hirsig an IT-entrepreneur. It is in our view a very efficient way to bring highly talented refugees in a short time off of social welfare into an IT-job. The project has 4 phases:

  • application (get the right people in to the program)
  • school (get a brush-up on frontend and culture in 13 weeks)
  • internship (get in to work life in a 6 to 12 months internship)
  • job (being ideally hired right after the internship)

We are supported by the State Secretary of Migration and ICTswitzerland.

Your support

We are involving the whole community, so if you are … a refugees apply as student. a local apply as a mentor for guiding our students. a IT-professional apply as a teacher/coach. a IT-company apply to offer an internship.

If you are none of the above or just don’t have the time to support us in person please support our crowdfunding project and like us on Facebook.

Our impact

In Bern a class of 15 refugees graduated last April. 5 got hired and are off of social welfare, 3 have started an apprenticeship, another 3 went back to university and 4 did not get hired yet. In Zürich 18 students graduated last December all of them found an internship or apprenticeship.

We are convinced that this is the best and fastest way to bring these people into an IT job and therefore bring Powercoders to Lausanne.
