Honoring volunteers

Tel 143 – Die Dargebotene Hand La Main Tendue Telefono Amico is an independent, politically and denominationally neutral, Zewo-certified non-profit organisation, 35% of which is financed by institutional contributions and 65% by donations. Tel 143 is a low-threshold contact point for emotional first aid for all people in Switzerland and the Principality of Liechtenstein. The service is free, anonymous and available 24 hours a day. Around 670 well-trained and professionally supervised volunteers are working in 12 regional offices.

At the beginning of the pandemic, the regional managers noticed that the need to talk from the population was going to increase: worries about the virus and the corresponding measures, stress linked to home office and child care, loneliness due to isolation, relationship problems and addictive behaviour. They thus planned to raise the listening capacity and volunteers did respond right away. Between April 2020 and April 2021, they provided almost 1,715 hours of additional care time over and above the «normal service».

Help us organize the Volunteer Congress 2022

In recognition of this great commitment, which the volunteers carry out with the utmost discretion, the Swiss Association organises a national conference every three years to enable all volunteers in Switzerland to meet and exchange ideas. This large gathering has a continuing education character and provides impulses that are important for the practice of listening.

The next congress will take place in March 2022 and will focus on the theme «What kind of listening for Tel 143 in the 21st century?» . The volunteers will determine the themes themselves thanks to an «Open Forum» method conducted by an external coach. A bilingual theatre group will take up the main ideas and deal with them in a playful way. Selected proposals will be included in the global strategy of the association.

We need your help to finance the congress

The costs of a two-day conference amount to about CHF 120,000 and are well above the Swiss Association’s ordinary budget. Tel 143 volunteers help people in need, day and night. Help us to thank our volunteers for their invaluable commitment and to build a society where people listen to each other with empathy.

With 15’000 CHF we can cover the accommodation costs of 100 volunteers.

With 23’000 CHF, we can offer an overnight stay to 100 volunteers and finance the external coach.

With 43’000 CHF, we can offer an overnight stay to 100 volunteers, finance the external coach and hire a theatre company.
