This is what it's all about.

«The Red Mountain» is a richly illustrated picture book in four languages: Dutch, French, English and German. This book is for everybody who loves the mountains – grown-ups and children alike.

My project is special because ...

Through my big, colourful drawings I show you the wonderful world of the mountains. The journey takes us through alpine meadows full of flowers, over nearby slopes with falling avalanches, down into desolate silence and into the middle of a cosy village.

The story is written in four languages, each of which recall a part of my personal journey. Dutch is my mother tongue and I learned French in the village of Evolène in Switzerland. English was useful to me during travels in the Himalayas and while living in Germany nowadays, I learned German. The text is an invitation to read together and can be read aloud by people, young and old, from various countries.

This project is close to my heart because it brings together multiple passions: love for the mountains and drawing in places where I discover over and over again new aspects in the magnificent landscape, my fascination for the colours in the rocks and finally the excitement books bring me. Making a book like this gives a piece of my heart to the world.

This is what I need backing for.

The revenue from the «wemakeit» campaign will be used to make a print run of the book so that a lot of people can enjoy it. The book is almost ready: the illustrations are made, the story is written and translated, the book design is nearly done … it would be truly wonderful if I could bring the book to the printing house soon…
