This is what it's all about.
During the research for our first joint book «Hast du Nein gesagt? Vom Umgang mit sexualisierter Gewalt,» which was published by Limmat Verlag in 2023, one question preoccupied us greatly: What about the mostly male perpetrators? This perspective was missing from our first book, which focused on the first three points of contact for victims of sexualized violence.
We are the journalists Miriam Suter and Natalia Widla. We have both been dealing with topics such as sexualized violence and police work for years.
Why is this book needed?
One thing is certain: sexualized and domestic violence are still widespread problems in Switzerland, and women are often the victims - this is also shown by the current crime statistics 2022. Most perpetrators are men.
Why do men commit such crimes? And what is Switzerland (not) doing to prevent these acts? In our new non-fiction book, we will address these questions and conduct a comprehensive analysis of sex offender and domestic violence prevention measures in Switzerland in the context of the Istanbul Convention and international standards.
Our motivation is to conclude the book with an analysis by providing an overview of the main findings and recommendations and how Switzerland can improve its prevention measures to reduce sexual violence and domestic violence. Such a book does not yet exist in Switzerland - but the need is definitely there, as the reactions to our first book show.
This is what we need backing for:
Based on our experience as journalists and the work on our first book, we can estimate how many days the research for the second book will take.
We reckon with a total of about 105 days of work (including preliminary research, writing, corrections, and so on). At the recommended daily rate of about 600 Swiss francs, this amounts to 63,000 Swiss francs for the two of us together.
Our crowdfunding goal would cover part of our author’s fee. We will try to raise the rest from foundations and funds.
