Year after year, for an endless eight months, thousands of families move to a desert in India to extract salt from the burning earth. Every monsoon their salt fields are washed away as the desert turns into sea. And still they return, taking pride in producing the whitest salt in the world.

My Name is Salt is an independent documentary film project by Zurich-based filmmakers Farida Pacha (director and producer) and Lutz Konermann (cameraman and co-producer).

Driven by our fascination for the subject we have collected amazing footage in the Kutch Salt Desert in India over the arc of one whole year. So far we have managed by putting in our personal resources and getting some support from the Jan Vrijman Fund and the Binger Filmlab, Amsterdam. Now we are looking for your help to be able to edit our 70 hours of material and turn it into a feature length documentary film.

6ʼ500 CHF would enable us to finance a rough cut, an important next step in the post-production. Anything closer to 10ʼ000 CHF would contribute substantially to the completion of the film. We are aiming at getting My Name is Salt ready in time to present it at the International Documentary Festival (IDFA) in Amsterdam next year.
