30 days to go

This is what it's all about.

In addition to his job in television, Stephan worked for several years as a selector for the «Zukunft» club in Zurich’s Kreis 4 district. As part of the team, he welcomed guests at the entrance and was allowed to decide who would spend the following hours in the cellar of Dienerstrasse 33. This intense time shaped his sense of belonging to the club, as well as his connection to the creators, their philosophy and the many guests he welcomed at the door over the years.

When Stephan found out in 2023 that the club would soon have to close for good, he knew immediately that something unique would disappear from the scene in just a few months. Something that was formative for Zurich and trend-setting for the development of the Langstrasse district. This gave him the desire to document the last days of the «future», to try to collect the many memories and capture the spirit that made this place so special.

When Stephan told him about his idea, Julian immediately recognized the intensity and scope that the stories from Dienerstrasse could unfold if they were told in sound and vision. In Julian’s past, the «future» and Kreis 4 literally meant one of his first addresses in Zurich.

Without hesitation, the two of them came up with the plan to make a documentary film about their journey to the closing in their spare time and without a fee. Stephan acts as the facilitator through his relationship with the club, while Julian manages the production with «StreamOn». Just a few weeks after the request to the «Zukunft» team, Markus Ott, Alex Dallas and Sacha Winkler, the two had successfully completed the first day of filming in Kreis 4. More days were to follow. In the meantime, the circle of their interview partners has grown far beyond the «Zukunft» club team.

«In our film, we let diverse voices from society, politics, nightlife and the music scene have their say in order to authentically capture the moment and document it from different perspectives.»

The «Zukunft» is the starting point of a story with many exciting insights that tells the story of the ongoing change in Kreis 4.

Our project is special because ...

Thanks to Stephan’s proximity to the club, we are right in the middle of the action. We take you behind the scenes and show you the people who put their heart and soul into making the last mile of the club an unforgettable journey.

How did the «Zukunft» manage to reinvent itself time and again, how is it heading towards its closure, what happens afterwards? We’ll show you. Our documentary interviews the makers, the formative artists and companions of the scene in Zurich, tells their stories and creates space for numerous opinionated characters from Langstrasse.

The closure of «Zukunft» also marks a new end and starting point for the noticeable changes in Zurich’s Kreis 4 district. With your support, we will bring these stories to the screen.

This is what I need backing for.

As a small film team, we have been documenting the last months before the closure of «Club Zukunft» in Zurich in our free time since 2023 without pay and now need your support to be able to hire local independent specialists for the sound and editing. This will give our film the final polish it deserves.

To thank you for your help, we have worked with «Zukunft» to create numerous lovely rewards.

All supporters will also receive a link to the current teaser. This will give you a first impression of our work. For updates, follow us on Instagram @zukifilm.ch
