This is what it's all about.

Hello, my name is Hnin. I come from Myanmar, but I have been living in Switzerland since 2021. I have always wanted to work on something meaningful. I grew up in a poor country, so I understand the real challenges people face and how difficult daily life can be. Because of this, I dreamed of creating a project that could support communities like the one I come from.

In 2022, I founded my brand Luan by Hnin, inspired by two main goals:

  1. To support artisans in poor and rural communities in Myanmar
  2. To promote environmentally friendly, natural, and chemical free products

My bags are handmade in Myanmar using 100 percent cotton and natural plant based dyes. Each color comes from fruits, leaves, tree barks and vegetables.

  • Dark orange comes from onion skins
  • Grey comes from gooseberry
  • Pink comes from palm fruit
  • Sky blue comes from gooseberry and Nga Thein Pyar, which is a traditional Myanmar plant
  • Army green comes from mango tree bark and turmeric

Every bag contributes to fair jobs, especially for women in rural communities.

When I started this brand in 2022, I faced many challenges. I was struggling with the language, adapting to a new culture and managing my financial situation. I worked in gastronomy to support myself but I did not have enough time or resources to continue my dream project.

Now my situation has changed. I quit my gastronomy job and I am now working as a Marketing staff member in a small company. I feel that this is the right moment to start again, to rebuild my project and to give it the full attention it deserves.

This project is not only my dream. It is also a chance to create a better future for communities in need and to show that sustainable, meaningful work can change lives.

My project is special because ...

It focuses on eco friendly production, fair trade values and support for artisans in poor countries. Every product is made with natural plant based dyes and handmade traditional fabrics. The work begins in Myanmar and will expand to other developing regions. By using natural colors and traditional craftsmanship, the project protects the environment and preserves cultural heritage. The fabric is partially handmade rather than fully machine made due to limited access to electricity in developing countries. At the same time, it provides fair and stable income for artisans, especially women who often have limited opportunities. Each item is more than a product. It represents a step toward reducing plastic and chemicals, helping communities in need, and showing that sustainable choices can change lives. This is what makes my project truly meaningful.

These naturally dyed, handmade cotton bags are hand-wash only and air-dry only. Each piece reflects careful craftsmanship, with fabrics dyed in central Myanmar and sewn in Yangon. The designs and colors are created by my own brand and brought from Myanmar to Switzerland.

I sell these bags on Instagram and have showcased them once at a small business market in Zurich. I hope to expand widely in locally.
