🎯 Our mission

Our mission is to provide the easiest and tastiest solution to consume food zero-waste and sustainably. We address the reduction of CO2 emissions in three ways:

• reduce the number of one-time packaging
• avoid food waste
• sustainably chosen recipes

🌎 SUSTAINABLE IMPACT

We want to make the sustainable impact of diets transparent and show the world that zero-waste food supply chains do not need to be difficult. We do that by making use of reusable bags and jars to provide our customers with healthy and delicious ready-to-make recipes each week.

🎁 SWISS FOCUSED & SEASONAL RECIPE BAG

Each Happie bag provides our customers with exactly the right amount of seasonal & sustainable ingredients to make your recipes for 2 or 3 days per week. Lastly, we focus on supporting the Swiss economy by providing our customers with ingredients from local entrepreneurs like tofu, tomato sauce, and tempeh that are produced in the Basel Area. After a week of delicious meals, we take back the bag and jars, clean and prepare them for the next order. That’s how we aim to get rid of waste and consume food sustainably for the mass of consumers that do not have sufficient time today to do this via alternative solutions.

🌱 Why we started?

A year ago we noticed something, and we are sure you have noticed it too. When going to the supermarket it seems almost impossible to avoid any packaging waste.

👎 WE PRODUCE A LOT OF WASTE

Now, we are all aware that packaging is a huge problem for the environment and we generate huge amounts of unnecessary waste. The numbers are shocking as we produce more than 700 kilograms of waste per person per year in Switzerland, one of the largest amounts of waste in Europe. Besides, we have noticed that it is often hard to estimate the exact amounts of food you need each week, leading to unnecessary food waste: eyes are sometimes bigger than one’s stomach (38% of the total food loss in Switzerland can be accounted for by households). These problems led us - Bram and Dennis - to our startup Happie, as we believe that living a packaging-free sustainable life needs to be easier.

🥕 WHO WE ARE?

We are Bram and Dennis, the co-founders of Happie Zero Waste, both coming from the Netherlands. Having both a busy job in Basel Area at a corporate business for a few years, we experienced first-hand how hard it can be to avoid packaging and food waste while cooking something tasty and healthy all the time. We could not find any solution on the market but recognized the need for such a solution with many others, so started to imagine a recipe bag that would fit our needs. No packaging waste, no food waste, tasty recipes, and sustainably sourced ingredients. And that is how Happie was born!

🏆 FINALIST IN STARTUP COMPETITIONS

With both an education and practical background in supply chain operations, marketing, and data analytics, we are well prepared to make Happie a success. We have already been selected for the finals of the Swiss Sustainability Challenge and Climate Launchpad and with the support of Startup Academy Basel and Markthalle, we are confident to further expand Happie within Basel and beyond.

🌎 INTRODUCING CO2-IMPACT FUNCTIONALITY

We want to do that by developing website functionalities that will allow our customers to optimize the climate footprint of their diet and make this fully transparent based on the meals that they choose each week.

✅ ECO-FRIENDLY DELIVERY

Moreover, after choosing the sustainably optimized recipes we want to ensure that it is delivered to their doorstep in an eco-friendly way. By making this available in the easiest possible way for the mass of Swiss consumers we are convinced we can make a significant climate impact.

🔑 WHAT WE NEED TO MAKE THE NEXT STEP

Concretely, we want to raise at least 2,500 CHF to support the following:

• Develop climate impact & communication website features to make the climate impact of chosen meals quantifiable for our customers
• Develop a system for our customers to choose between recipes on our website
• An electric cargo bicycle for deliveries in the area Basel-Stadt
• Funds to engage with a logistical partner for eco-friendly deliveries in Switzerland
