The project
For ten years, Julien has combed forests and alpine pastures, amassing thousands of hours of footage using the largest network of camera traps ever set up in the region.
Gradually, his 250 cameras reveal unprecedented, non-intrusive images of wolves’ intimate lives: pack hierarchy, births, territorial behaviour… and their fleeting encounters with humans.
WHAT PLACE FOR THE WOLF?
Yet Julien’s wonderment leads him to a dilemma. In the same Jura region, his childhood friend, now a shepherd, must defend his livestock against the rising number of attacks.
Torn between his fascination for this iconic animal and his loyalty to his community, Julien seeks another path: observing, analysing and testing solutions to enable lasting coexistence between wolves and herds.
When the breeding male is accidentally shot, the Marchairuz pack’s balance collapses, brutally exposing the fragility of this coexistence and casting doubt over the pack’s future.
Through this story, La Part des Loups tells more than just the return of a species to our mountains. The film explores the clash between two worlds – the wild and the pastoral – and asks a pressing question: are we truly ready to make space for the wild, or do we only tolerate it as long as it remains out of sight?
Why do we need your support?
This film exists first and foremost thanks to Julien Regamey. For ten years, he roamed the Jura in all weathers, at all hours, to follow Goldilocks, Grandfather and the elusive Marchairuz pack.
Through years of patience and perseverance, he managed to capture rare footage in a region where few filmmakers venture, given how difficult it is to observe wolves.
Two years ago, ORCA Production studio joined Julien’s adventure. Equally passionate about the predator’s return, director Stephan Rytz wanted to turn this treasure trove of images into a film by structuring the narrative and meeting shepherds, farmers and biologists to give a human voice to the story.
Today, the film is shot. It awaits its final form.
To complete this last step – editing, colour grading, sound mixing and composing an original score – we need your support.
Your contribution will help bring to life a cinematic film that we can’t wait to share with you in autumn 2027.
What will your support be used for?
Your contribution will help finish the film and bring it to its audience: cinema screenings, festivals, and discussions in the affected regions.
——————————————————————————— EVERY FUNDING GOAL ENHANCES THE FILM: ——————————————————————————— 50 000 CHF – Image editing ——————————————————————————— 100 000 CHF – Sound editing & colour grading ——————————————————————————— 150 000 CHF – Musical composition & wide distribution ———————————————————————————
By supporting this film, you give a voice to those living this reality – shepherds, breeders, biologists – and contribute to a dialogue our society must have.
After ten years of following their tracks, the question may no longer be whether Goldilocks and Big Papa have a place among us.
The real question is: HOW WILL WE CHOOSE TO LIVE WITH THEM?
