Our Story and Vision

Brasserie Sermaret was founded in 2018 by Loïc Scheidegger, while he was still a student. He began brewing in his family home, experimenting with recipes and techniques. Success quickly followed, and production grew. Loïc then decided to set up in Orbe, allowing the brewery to fully develop and begin a new chapter in its craft journey.

We aim to build a small-scale Swiss craft brewery focused on quality, creativity, and respect for the environment. For us, beer is more than just a drink — it’s a way to connect people, share moments, and uphold values.

Challenges and Objectives

During his studies in industrial management engineering at the Haute école d’ingénierie et de gestion du canton de Vaud in Yverdon-les-Bains, Loïc Scheidegger developed a strong awareness of environmental issues. Convinced that the brewing sector can play a key role in the ecological transition, he conducted in-depth research to identify the main levers for reducing CO₂ emissions. He met with several craft breweries, analyzed their processes, and refined his diagnosis using scientific tools.

The numbers speak for themselves:

Producing one liter of beer can generate up to 1.35 kg of CO₂, making it the beverage with the highest CO₂ emissions over its entire life cycle.*¹

65% of these emissions come from the packaging alone, and 18% from the production process.*²

To address this, Brasserie Sermaret is committing to an ambitious sustainability transition, based on measurable and replicable solutions:

⚡ Electrifying the brewing process and investing in an isobarometric fermentation tank to improve energy efficiency and reduce direct emissions.

️ Prioritizing reusable stainless steel kegs for packaging.

Together, these two actions could reduce the brewery’s emissions by up to 83%.

Optimizing logistics through short supply chains and carefully planned distribution.

🧪 Continuous improvement of brewing processes through standardized procedures and an integrated management system.

This approach is part of a broader vision: contributing to the goals of the Accords de Paris sur le climat — reducing CO₂ emissions by 50% by 2030 and reaching net zero by 2050.*³

For our brewery, environmental protection is not an option — it’s a core value. We believe that, at our scale, we can spark real change and inspire others in the brewing sector to follow a low-carbon path.

This unique project gives you the opportunity to actively contribute to environmental protection by supporting a tangible, solution-oriented initiative.

Why Your Support Matters

Every contribution brings us closer to a more sustainable brewery. Here’s exactly how your support will be used:

8,000 CHF — New Isobarometric Fermentation Tank

This tank will allow us to capture and reuse the CO₂ naturally produced during fermentation to carbonate the beer, instead of releasing it into the atmosphere. Estimated impact: savings of around 2 kg of CO₂ per hectoliter produced.

17,000 CHF — Electrification of the Production Process

We will increase the amperage of the site and equip our tanks with high-efficiency electric heating elements to heat water more effectively and sustainably. Result: the carbon intensity of each kWh consumed will drop from 270 g to 40 g of CO₂e,*⁴ significantly reducing our energy footprint. This investment also covers other essential equipment for the brewery’s development.

3,000 CHF — Stainless Steel Kegs

Reusable kegs are the ideal packaging solution: they preserve beer quality while significantly reducing waste. Impact: up to 65% fewer carbon emissions compared to single-use containers.

Every contribution counts. Your support — no matter the amount — will help shape the future of Brasserie Sermaret, strengthening its commitment to craftsmanship, local production, and sustainability.

We warmly thank everyone who believes in this project. With your help, Brasserie Sermaret will continue to grow while staying true to its values: passion, quality, and sustainability.
