With «PIWI vines» for an ecological and sustainable future
Dear Wine Friends, dear Supporters,
«The extremes are increasing: mild winters, cold and wet springs, as well as intense heat periods in the summer months, accompanied by severe thunderstorms. In the last 4 years, we had two good harvests and, due to weather conditions, two small ones. This strains our reserves. To become future-proof, we rely on the new PIWI vines. These robust varieties will help us achieve consistent harvests over the years.»
We are Rahel and Daniel Buchmann, passionate and dedicated winemakers. Since 2015, we have been cultivating around 6 hectares of vineyards in Wittnau AG and Tegerfelden AG. As visionary and innovative winemakers, we adhere to the controlled biodynamic guidelines of Demeter to promote a harmonious interplay between humans, nature, and animals.
Our vineyards are not just production sites for characterful wines but also living ecosystems. With the utmost respect for nature, our most important partner and collaborator, we have already renatured around 15% of our farm area. All year round, Skudde (Ovis aries) and Ouessant sheep graze between our vines, and we plant various trees and hedges to provide a home for fauna and flora.
We firmly believe that a colorful mix of plants and animals benefits everyone – just like with us humans.
Through your investment, we can make our vineyards not only biologically but also ecologically more valuable. Your financial support enables us to plant new, robust PIWI varieties. These varieties require less plant protection and reduce the risk of crop failures in challenging years like 2024 or 2021. Additionally, we preserve and enhance soil vitality, benefiting us all.
Every contribution helps us pursue our vision of viticulture in harmony with nature. We invite you to become part of our vision and support our crowdfunding campaign. Together, we can achieve great things.
Now is the perfect time to make a change together. Your support will make a significant difference.
Thank you very much for your support. Rahel & Daniel
My project is special because ...
We are not just vintners who want to produce wine. We see it as our duty to take care of the environment and the ecosystem, to promote them, and to make the soils better and more fertile for the next generations.
As Demeter vintners, we adopt a particularly mindful and environmentally friendly approach to viticulture. We operate under the strictest biodynamic guidelines of Demeter, which go far beyond the requirements of organic farming. The biodynamic approach promotes the health of our vines and soil through the use of special preparations and natural methods.
Our vineyards are true oases of biodiversity. Here you will find a variety of plants, animals, and insects that together form a balanced and stable ecosystem. Chemical-synthetic pesticides and artificial fertilizers are taboo for us – instead, we use natural methods for pest control and soil improvement.
In the wine cellar, we embrace minimalism: no cultured yeasts, very limited fining agents, and a focus on the authentic character of the wine. This philosophy of minimal intervention ensures that the wine retains its unique expression.
Respect for Mother Nature is at the heart of our work. We view our vineyards as living organisms and work in harmony with natural rhythms. Through preventive measures and a lot of manual labor, we achieve grapes of the highest quality.
This is what I need backing for.
Our vision is to convert our vineyard entirely to PIWI vines within the next few years. This is an ambitious goal that requires both considerable work and significant financial investment. Together with your support, we come closer to realizing our vision. With your support, we can plant 1,000 new vines, equip them with hail protection nets and irrigation tubes. Your financial aid directly contributes to the success of the PIWI vine project and helps us rethink viticulture, reducing the risk of crop failures.
As a token of our gratitude, we offer you exclusive rewards that provide unique insights and direct involvement in our project.
Your support is crucial to the sustainable future of our winemaking. Help us pave the way for a safer, more environmentally friendly, and resilient wine production.
